There is a lot to see and do at Shellharbour both in the Village centre itself and around the Shellharbour area. The options are endless.

 

The Harbour
At the end of the street you will arrive at the Harbour. It is well known for Norfolk Pine trees and rock baths. The harbour foreshore is a perfect place for a picnic. There is a great park on the water edge, a salt water pool with a children's shaded pool area, playground and small beach for the kids, a boat ramp and fishing wharf. Approx. 10 minutes walk
 
Local Shopping Village
The shopping village has history and character. The main street has a great selection of cafe's & fine dining restaurants. You will also find boutique specialty shops, ice-creamery, beauty salon, hair dresser, bait & tackle shop, newsagent and convenient store, just to name a few. Approx 5 minute walk
 
Beaches
North beach is usually patrolled during the holidays. It is a great for swimming & surfing. South beach is a little less crowded. It's a great beach to swim, sunbake and relax. Approx 2 min drive
 
Local Pub
The pub has a great verandah to sit & enjoy a cold drink whilst admiring the breathtaking views of the harbour. Approx 10 min walk
 
Bass Point
Bass Point got its name from the great Australian explorer - George Bass. The reserve is a popular spot for a picnic, recreational visit, fishing, diving and walking. In 1943 an American merchant ship sank off the point and although no sailors' died, 4 Australian soldiers who went to their aid drowned. A memorial has been erected on site. Approximatley 5 min drive.
 
Shellharbour Shopping Square
The shopping centre is one of the largest in the Illawarra area. Stockland Shellharbour is located on Lake Entrance Road Shellharbour. There are approx 120 stores and services. Eg Kmart, Coles & Bi-Lo ( 6-8 min drive)
 
Shellharbour Worker's Club
For a night out head to "Shellys" .The club is full of action. Dancing, eating, drinking and just having fun. Catch a band or play a couple of games on the pokies. The club is located o n the corner of Shellharbour and Wattle Roads which means you can walk there and back home or maybe just take the courtesy bus. Facilities include Tab, Keno, restaurants, Brassiere, café, alfresco dining, internet café, bottle shop, squash courts, snooker room Approx 8 min walk
 
Blackbutt Forest Reserve
Located to the north of Shellharbour, this reserve offers ideal bush walking grounds. There are several tracks & picnic areas and it's a great place for a relaxing day out. There is a fitness circuit with climbing frames, chin-up bars and sit-up benches and each state has instructions.
 
Killalea State Recreation Area
This beautiful area offers visitors unspoilt beaches and coastal wetlands. Favourite place for the surfers - Minnamurra and Killalea Beaches. Killalea is also a good place to scuba drive, spear fish or snorkel.
 
Macquarie Pass National Park
This National Park is located offers steep densely timbered ridges and rainforest gullies. Great place for bush walking, The Cascades Rainforest Walk is 2 kms and will take you to the 'Cascades' ( 20m high water falls). The Glenview Track crosses a creek and then plunges over the waterfalls.
 
Picnic Island
On the western side of Windang Bridge you will find a pathway that leads across to Picnic Island. Around 150 bird species inhabit the island making it a great place for bird watchers. The island also offers bush walking tracks and a lookout. Approx 5 min drive
 
Warilla
The beach to the east is ideal for children due to the shallow waters and beyond that is a popular windsurfing area. At low tide the sand flats are used for prawning and it becomes possible to reach Windang Island. Approx 7 min drive
 
Railway Museum
The Illawarra Railway Museum is located in Tongarra Road, Albion Park. On display it has nineteenth-century steam engines trams and carriages. There are train rides around the bush land track on the second Sunday of each month. There are also picnic and barbecue facilities available.
 
Kiama
Even before arriving to Kiama you will be fascinated by the views because the drive to Kiama is spectacular. In fact the stretch Minnamurra River to Gerringong offers breath-taking scenery. Once there, you must visit the light house and the ever popular Blowhole. You can browse the Kiama's shops for hours. There are little arts and crafts terraces that were built in 1885 and are one of Kiama's most historic buildings and landmarks. Originally the buildings were the home of workers from the local quarries. After many years the terraces were restored. Now they operate as individual speciality shops. Including jewellery, gifts and souvenirs, cane, pottery and books.
 
Kangaroo Valley
Discover this delightful rural village that has kept is charming village character. Famous sandstone Hampden Bridge, old farmhouses and cottages, lush green pastures. This quaint little town is a beautiful location to visit. Full of tradition & tranquillity. Experience the peaceful country town.
 
Minnamurra Rainforest
Enjoy a day of total relaxation at the Minnamurra Rainforest. There are raised boardwalks and paved tracks with access suitable to for all . Take in the spectacular views of the rainforest canopy and of the canyon carved by the Minnamurra River.
 
Fishing in the area
Shellharbour is the ideal place to launch your boat and head out for a day of fishing. Or if you don't have a boat, simply fish off the beach, rocks or wharf in the harbour. Deep sea fishing tours operate regularly. Whiting can be caught off local beaches in summer. Lake Illawarra is another popular fishing spot. And for the lovers of prawns try your luck at Warilla. Other fish that can be caught in the area include mackeral, tailor, snapper, trevally, jewfish, kingfish and tuna.
 
Jambaroo Fun Park
A resort park where you can enjoy the thrills and spills of the two giant water slides. There is an 8 lane speed waterslide and mountain slide (toboggans). Play mini golf, race in go-karts and have a ride on the speed boats. The park features picnic ground and barbecue facilities.
